selection range

Maglen Pinot Nero Riserva is a selection of precious grapes from two adjacent and complementary areas: historic vineyards on the Mazon plateau and steep and sunny vineyards in Glen. It typifies the elegance of Italian Pinot noir.

Rich in extracts and of profound depth. You will be conquered by sweet sour cherries, juicy red berries and lively spices. Preferable to many ordinary Burgundy wines.

Alto Adige DOC

vintage description

A long winter left the vines dormant until early April. Bud break was followed by a drop in temperatures, which delayed flowering. The weather remained changeable throughout the summer, with a very hot June and wet July, providing the ideal groundwork for the imminent maturation period. August presented itself from its best side, with sunny and dry weeks and extraordinarily low temperatures at night. Apart from few showers in late September/early October, the weather during the harvest, which started 10 days later than last year and with lower volumes than usual, was characterised by many warm days with increasingly cooler nights. The white wines of the 2021 vintage showcase great depth and reveal pronounced freshness and delicate fruity notes on the palate, whereas the fuller bodied red wines boast mature tannins and fresh aromas of fruit.

  • grapes: Pinot Noir
  • yield: 35 hl/hectare
  • altitude: 400 – 600 m
  • slope exposure: west 80 %, southwest 20 %
  • harvest: beginning – end of October
  • soil: sandy loam
  • age of vines: 15 – 25 years
  • climate: extreme interplay between sunny days, influenced by the Mediterranean climate, and the cool nights, marked by the cold downslope winds from the surrounding mountains..
  • bottles produced: ca. 11,600, 150magnum bottles and a few other large formats

At harvest, the grapes are delivered in small bins and gently destemmed and crushed. After 3 to 5 days of cold maceration (15% whole grapes), fermentation takes place slowly at controlled temperatures (26°C) in large oak casks with repeated punch-downs of the must to bring forth the typical aromas of the grape variety.

After aging in French barrels for 12 months and another 6 months in concrete vats, the wine is kept in the bottle for at least 6 months prior to commercial release.
